Created Ning networking site for Ottawa-Orleans Environment Network

Last night, after returning from a visit to my parents in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, I created this networking site to link people on issues of environment and energy in Ottawa-Orleans.

The Ottawa-Orleans Environment Network is an emerging program set of projects focused on environmental and energy use issues in the Ottawa-Orleans area. It is part of the Team Ottawa-Orleans portfolio of community interests that also include health, social, and economic issues.

Working together to sustain our community in the world.

The Ottawa-Orleans Environment Network is a portfolio of programs that seek to move the "green" discussion in our community to grounded practice. A part of Team Ottawa-Orleans, this network brings people, ideas, and resources together to identify and find real solutions to issues that affect the community.

The current argument that urban=good, suburban=bad does little to improve the working, living, and play contexts of the 65% of Canadian who live in suburban communities. Our goal is to help Ottawa-Orleans become an environmental beacon.

Our portfolio has five streams that meet and work together - like a hand:
(a) reduce footprint,
(b) increase use of alternative energy,
(c) develop technology and employment,
(d) focus on livability, and
(e) research and document processes to create a model for suburban communities.

Map of Orleans

This is a satellite photo of Ottawa-Orleans. Contrary to many perceptions of a suburban community - Orleans is quite a dense collection of houses and businesses, surrounded by agricultural land.
